Westport’s Best Catch, Local Lobster & Seafood Wine Dinner
Westport Rivers continues its Long Acre House Wine Dinner Series on Saturday July 11th, 2009. Our hosts for the evening will be Westport Rivers Owner/Vineyard Manager Rob Russell and his special guest, Lobsterman and local celebrity Grant Moore who has starred in Discovery Channel's "Lobster Wars" and "Jeopardy at Sea". The fun begins at 5:30pm when Rob Russell leads us down to vineyard’s edge to speak about the styles and varietals we focus on here at the winery. Rob planted our first block of viniferous grapes back in 1986 and has been responsible for all vineyard and growing operations since the winery’s inception. Rob will give you an in depth look at winemaking from a grower’s perspective and explain why we really do make, what some people call, the most “food-friendly” wines in all of New England if not the world.
Rob’s special guest (and personal friend), Grant Moore will also be present. Being a local Westport Lobsterman, Grant will not only be providing the lobsters used in the evening’s menu, but will also speak about his appearance on the Discovery Channel specials, which were created by the same people who bring you the exciting hit show “Deadliest Catch”. The specials explore New England’s challenging offshore lobster industry. Chasing lobsters on Georges Bank requires as much brains as brawn, says Grant, and he’s been trapping lobsters for more than 30 years now. Learn about local seafood from a true professional in the industry and recognize the added appreciation that comes from this type of experience.
This, like all our wine dinners is a 21+, rain or shine event. The private owner’s tour provided by Rob Russell will begin at 5:30pm. Dinner with Rob and Grant Moore will immediately follow the tour and guests will be comfortably seated at our Long Acre House Wine & Food Education Center, located on the winery property. Wine dinners typically consist of four courses paired exclusively with Westport Rivers wine. Guests will also be able to purchase wines after the event at incredible prices. Please dress farm casual and weather appropriate as a portion of the tour does take place outside. This event will sell out, seating is limited and all aspects are handicap accessible.
